Some holiday destinations are all beach and no personality. Others are beautiful but so quiet you’re in bed by 8pm watching Spanish quiz shows you don’t understand. Then there’s Denia — sitting comfortably in that sweet spot between chilled beach town, foodie heaven, historic gem and lively marina hotspot. This place has proper main-character energy.

Picture colourful buildings glowing in the sunshine, palm-lined streets buzzing with restaurants, fishing boats bobbing beside luxury yachts and a huge fairytale-style castle watching over it all from above. It’s the kind of place where you’ll accidentally take 400 photos before lunchtime and suddenly start saying things like, “I could actually live here.”
Denia sits on the northern part of Spain’s Costa Blanca, tucked between mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. You’ve got over 20 kilometres of beaches, a ridiculously good food scene, hidden coves, scenic hikes and enough bars and tapas spots to keep your evenings sorted for weeks. And somehow, despite all this, it still feels properly Spanish.
No fake tourist-town vibes. No giant inflatable flamingos taking over every pool. Just a laid-back coastal city that knows exactly what it’s doing.Whether you want lazy beach days, romantic sunset dinners or family adventures, Denia delivers the goods.
Holiday Hack Sheet
Let’s be honest — planning holidays can quickly become a full-time job. That’s why loads of people book through On the Beach, TUI or Jet2 Holidays.
It keeps everything simple. Flights, hotels and transfers all bundled together, loads of accommodation options and flexible payment plans that stop your bank account crying all at once.
Denia especially suits villa holidays and apartment stays because the whole place has this relaxed “do things at your own pace” vibe. Whether you want a beachfront hotel, a quiet villa near the mountains or somewhere right by the marina, there’s loads of choice.
Flights to Costa Blanca are nice and easy.
- London to Alicante: around 2 hours 30 minutes
- Manchester: about 2 hours 45 minutes
- Newcastle or Glasgow: roughly 3 hours
Basically, you can swap drizzle for sangria before you know it!
The easiest airport to fly into is Alicante Airport. Some travellers also use Valencia Airport, but Alicante tends to have more direct UK flights and holiday package options. From Alicante Airport to Denia is usually around 1 hour 15 minutes depending on traffic.
Why People Fall in Love with Denia
Denia somehow manages to feel lively and peaceful at the same time.
One minute you’re wandering through quiet old-town streets with flower-covered balconies and tiny tapas bars. The next, you’re strolling around a glamorous marina lined with yachts that cost more than your entire postcode.
The harbour is one of the best bits of the city. Fancy boats, seafood restaurants, cocktail spots and sunset views everywhere you look. The main boulevard, Carrer Marqués de Campo, links the port to the town centre and feels like Denia’s social hub. Think shops, bars, outdoor dining and plenty of people-watching opportunities.
Then there’s the food. Denia is officially recognised by UNESCO for its gastronomy, which basically means eating here is a serious business. The town has over 365 restaurants — literally one for every day of the year — and the famous local red prawns are basically celebrity status seafood.
Honestly, even if you arrive pretending you’re “not really a foodie,” Denia will change that very quickly.
