Things To Do:

The first stop on the list must be Koukounaries Beach. Imagine the softest, golden sand imaginable and crystal-clear waters that practically invite you to dive in. This beach is not only the most famous on the island but also one of the best in Greece. Whether it’s chilling under the umbrella or trying out some water sports, there’s something for everyone here.

Next up is Skiathos Town, the heart of the island. Wander through the charming, narrow streets lined with whitewashed houses and colourful flowers. The town is packed with cute little shops, vibrant bars and traditional Greek tavernas. Don’t miss the chance to visit the Papadiamantis House Museum, dedicated to the famous Greek writer who was born in Skiathos. It’s a small but interesting peek into the local culture and history.

For a bit of adventure, a hike up to Kastro is a must. This old fortress was once a refuge for the locals against pirate attacks! Even though it’s mostly ruins now, the view from the top is absolutely worth the walk up. Panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and the surrounding islands are breathtaking.

Restaurant Recommendations:

When hunger strikes, there’s no shortage of fantastic places to eat. Marmita is a must-visit. Tucked away in Skiathos Town, this restaurant offers traditional Greek dishes with a modern twist. The cosy garden setting adds to the charm, making it perfect for a relaxed dinner. The lamb kleftiko here is legendary!

Another great spot is Bourtzi. Located on a small peninsula just outside Skiathos Town, this restaurant offers amazing views of the harbour and the sea. The seafood here is as fresh as it gets, and the setting is perfect. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a sunset dinner.

Day Trips:

A boat trip to the nearby island of Skopelos is highly recommended. Known as the filming location for the movie Mamma Mia!, Skopelos is just as beautiful in real life. The island is covered in lush greenery and the beaches are quieter than those on Skiathos. Be aware that if you want to visit the chapel featured in Mamma Mia, there is a walk uphill with a lot of steps(220 to be exact!) Private Skopelos Island Boat Tour To Mamma Mia Sites

Hop on a yacht and sail around the dreamy Skiathos & Skopelos Islands. Swim in crystal-clear waters, explore hidden caves and relax on Tsougria’s & Argos’s beaches. Bonus: Spot the iconic Mamma Mia filming locations! All-Inclusive Full-Day Cruise & Lunch on Viator

Another great excursion is to the Monastery of Evangelistria, a serene spot nestled in the hills. It’s a peaceful escape from the bustling beaches and the views from the monastery are simply stunning. Plus, there’s a small museum where the monks produce their own wine and olive oil, which can be sampled. Sacred Skiathos, GetYourGuide

If you fancy a different boat trip, sail from Skiathos Port to stunning Lalaria Beach, historic Kastro, and hidden island gems. Swim, sunbathe, explore, and soak up paradise! Cruise to Lalaria, Kastro, and Tsougris, GetYourGuide

Practical Tips:

Beach Shoes Are a Must: Pebbly beaches like Lalaria call for comfy footwear to avoid ouch moments.

Catch the Local Buses: Cheap, reliable and scenic—they’re the best way to explore the island.

Pack a Light Jacket: Evenings can get breezy, especially if you’re on a boat.

Early Ferry Bookings: Planning island-hopping? Reserve your spot early—it’s a lifesaver in peak season!

Cash Is King: Many small businesses prefer cash, so keep some euros handy for taverna treats.

Tipping – Not required but appreciated! Leave 5-10% at restaurants and round up for taxis. Hotel staff always appreciate a small tip!

Adapters – Skiathos uses two-pin European plugs, so bring an adapter if needed. Otherwise, charging your phone might become an adventure!

Skiathos is the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure! From golden beaches to breathtaking views, you’ll leave with amazing memories and a serious urge to come back! Time to start planning your trip!
