If you’re dreaming of somewhere ridiculously beautiful, tropical and full of those “wish you were here” Insta shots, Grand Gaube in Mauritius is calling your name. Think turquoise waters, swaying palms, and vibes smoother than your holiday tan. If paradise had a postcode—it’d be here. Get ready for pure island magic.
Holiday Tips
Fly into Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport—yep, it’s a mouthful but it’s Mauritius’ main hub. Transfers to Grand Gaube take about 1 hour 15 mins. From the UK, flights take around 12 hours and will be indirect, so pack snacks and a neck pillow.
We recommend booking with TUI, Etihad Holidays or OnTheBeach—you’ll get good deals, expert support, ATOL protection, and peace of mind. Easy, affordable, and stress-free? Yes please!

We stayed at the Veranda Paul & Virginie Hotel & Spa in Grand Gaube (booked through TUI, of course – because we like things easy and fabulous). The place? Stunning. Think infinity pool that goes on forever, spotless rooms that smell like sunshine, and enough on-site activities to keep you from ever wanting to leave. They’ve got free kayaking and paddleboarding, plus cool extras like catamaran cruises and glass-bottom boat trips (yes, you will spot fish and feel smug about it). Evenings? Expect authentic local music and dance shows that feel way more cultural than cringe. Basically, it’s paradise… with cocktails. Veranda Paul & Virginie Hotel & Spa with TUI

About Grand Gaube
Grand Gaube is a laid-back fishing village on the northern tip of Mauritius, with more coconut trees than people and enough charm to melt even your grandparents’ hard sweets. It’s got this perfect mix of local life and luxury, where you can sip rum cocktails one minute and watch fishermen pull in fresh catch the next.
Historically, it was a peaceful Creole village shaped by the island’s French, Indian, African and Chinese roots. This cultural mash-up is what gives the area its amazing food, music and friendly vibe. Grand Gaube hasn’t been overrun with tourists, which makes it feel more real, while still serving up those postcard-perfect beaches. And it’s not just sea and sand—think lush greenery, volcanic views, and enough sunshine to toast you like a marshmallow. Basically, it’s like someone Googled “perfect place to escape real life” and Grand Gaube popped up first.
First things first—the beaches. They’re stupidly stunning. Grand Gaube’s coastline is quieter than the island’s bigger resort towns, which means you’re more likely to spot a fishing boat than a jet ski. Stretch out on the soft sand, paddle in crystal-clear water, and pretend you’re in a travel advert.
Snorkelling and diving? Absolutely. Grab your snorkel and get up close with colourful fish, coral gardens and maybe even a cheeky turtle if you’re lucky. No gear? No worries—plenty of local spots or even your hotel will kit you out.
Fancy a boat trip? Hop on a catamaran and cruise around the north coast, stopping at dreamy islets like Île aux Gabriel and Coin de Mire. The sea is so blue it looks fake. Catamaran 3 Islands Cruise, GetYourGuide
Casela Nature Park is an absolute must-do while you’re in Mauritius. It’s like an adventure playground for grown-ups (and kids too, we suppose). From wild ziplining to canyon swings that’ll have your stomach in your mouth, and even safari drives – it’s a full day of fun. Book ahead – this place gets busy and you don’t want to miss out! Whilst here, why not unwind at Flic en Flac Beach after a fun packed day, arguably the best beach on the island. Casela Nature Park and Flic en Flac Beach Private Tour on Viator
One word: dolphins. If you do one trip in Mauritius, make it this. We swam with wild dolphins (yes, actual wild ones!) and it was honestly the highlight of the whole trip. Why not add in Whale Watching as well, just to make all your dreams come true on the same day! Swimming with Wild Dolphins & Whale Watching on Viator
If you want a culture fix, head to Goodlands, the local market town. It’s colourful, chaotic and full of spice stalls, sarongs, and street food that smells like heaven. Try some gateaux piments (spicy lentil fritters) or dholl puri (a stuffed flatbread miracle).
Feeling adventurous? Book a tour to La Nicolière, a scenic inland route full of rainforest vibes, waterfalls, and monkeys. Yes, real monkeys. There’s also Pamplemousses Botanical Garden nearby—full of giant lily pads, tropical plants, and the perfect excuse to wear that safari hat you impulse-bought.
Don’t miss Cap Malheureux, a nearby village known for its adorable red-roofed church and panoramic views of the northern islands. It’s only 15 minutes away and totally worth the trip (especially for your camera roll).
Don’t miss a private tour of Northern Mauritius! Visit bustling Port Louis, the lush Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, enjoy rum tasting at Aventure du Sucre, and end the day at Cap Malheureux’s iconic red church – all with your own guide! Mauritius Private North Tour, GetYourGuide
Need a day of pure luxury? Many of the beachfront hotels and resorts offer spa days, paddleboarding, sunset yoga and all the boujee things you’d never do at home. Go on, treat yourself—you’re in Mauritius!
And when the sun dips low, grab a cocktail, sit by the sea, and watch the sky light up in pinks and oranges that don’t even look real. Grand Gaube knows how to do sunsets properly.
Top Tips
Say “bonzour” – It’s good morning in Creole, and the locals love it when you try.
Bring mosquito spray – They’re small, savage, and immune to manners.
Haggle with a smile – Market shopping? A cheeky grin gets you far.
Use beach shoes – Some beaches have coral or rocks. Your feet will thank you.
Learn to chill – Time is more of a suggestion here. Relax, you’re on island time.
Leave room in your suitcase – For rum, spices, and 27 sarongs you didn’t plan to buy.
Local Trips – GetYourGuide & Viator offer some trips in Mauritius. Check out local trip operators once there also to see what else they offer!

Grand Gaube isn’t just a destination—it’s a whole vibe. It’s tropical, peaceful, a bit boujee, and full of little surprises that make you never want to leave. Whether you’re after sunsets, rum, or some serious zen, this Mauritian gem delivers. Go now, thank us later. Your soul will return happy.
