Holiday Hack Sheet
Getting there is straightforward, with flights from the UK to Las Vegas included in the package. Once you land, you’ll collect your rental car at the airport and the adventure officially begins. Las Vegas acts as both the starting and finishing point of the trip, making logistics simple and easy.
Accommodation is arranged for you along the entire route, with a mix of comfortable 2- to 4-star hotels in locations close to the national parks and key stops on the journey. That means you can focus on enjoying the road trip without worrying about where to stay each night.
Because it’s a self-drive tour, you’ll have the freedom to explore at your own pace. Want to stop for extra photos? Go for a longer hike? Or pull over at a scenic viewpoint just because it looks amazing? You absolutely can.
Booking this tour with TUI also takes a lot of the stress out of planning. Flights, hotels and car hire are organised in advance, plus you’ll receive a structured itinerary so you know exactly where you’re heading next. It’s the perfect balance of independence and peace of mind.
The Tour
Your adventure begins in Las Vegas, where neon lights, huge hotels and buzzing casinos set the tone for the trip. You’ll have a full day to explore the famous Strip, take photos at the iconic welcome sign or simply soak up the electric atmosphere before hitting the road.
From there, the journey heads towards Zion National Park, where towering sandstone cliffs and emerald-coloured pools create some of the most dramatic landscapes in the Southwest. It’s a brilliant place to start the national park portion of the trip, with plenty of hiking trails and scenic viewpoints to explore.
Next comes Bryce Canyon, famous for its surreal rock formations called hoodoos. These tall, thin spires look almost otherworldly, especially at sunrise or sunset when the rocks glow orange and pink. It’s also one of the best places in the US for stargazing thanks to its famously dark skies.
The road then leads through Kodachrome Basin State Park and Capitol Reef National Park, two lesser-known but incredibly beautiful parks. Think colourful rock spires, deep canyons and peaceful landscapes without the crowds you often find elsewhere.
After that, you’ll spend a few days in Moab, which acts as the gateway to two more iconic parks — Canyonlands National Park and Arches National Park. This area is packed with dramatic viewpoints, natural stone arches and epic desert scenery that looks straight out of a movie.
The journey continues through Mesa Verde National Park, where you can see ancient Native American cliff dwellings built directly into canyon walls. It’s one of the most fascinating historical sites in the region.
Of course, no American Southwest adventure would be complete without visiting the Grand Canyon. Standing at the rim and looking out across the enormous landscape is one of those moments that genuinely takes your breath away.
Before heading back to Las Vegas, the route takes you through Horseshoe Bend, Lake Powell, and the spectacular red sandstone formations of Monument Valley. These iconic landscapes are some of the most photographed in the United States — and once you see them in person, it’s easy to understand why.
The journey finishes back in Las Vegas, where you can celebrate the end of an unforgettable road trip with one last stroll along the famous Strip.
Travel Hacks
Download offline maps before you go — phone signal disappears surprisingly often in national parks.
Start hikes early. Sunrise views are better and you’ll avoid midday desert heat.
Always keep extra water in the car — desert drives can be longer than expected.
Fill up on petrol whenever you can. Some routes have very few fuel stops.
Pack layers. Desert temperatures swing from chilly mornings to scorching afternoons.
Bring a tripod if you love photography — the night skies here are incredible.
Don’t rush viewpoints. Some of the best moments happen when you linger longer.
Try local diners along the way — the road-trip food experience is half the fun.
This Canyon Adventure self-drive tour is the ultimate American road trip. With world-famous national parks, endless scenic highways and unforgettable landscapes, it’s the kind of adventure that stays with you long after you return home — dusty hiking boots, full camera roll and all.
