EasyJet Cabin Baggage Rules

Since Covid has receded in to a painful memory, the airlines have been doing their best to recoup lost revenue in any way they can. Being an frequent Easyjet flyer I’ve noticed that over the last year they have become a lot stricter on the size of the cabin bags you can take on board at no extra cost.

I got caught out by this on a recent trip to Dalaman. I had my normal small-wheeled carry-on and was happily stood in the boarding gate queue at Manchester. This is a carry-on I’d been using for years as a cabin bag while flying with Easyjet. This time, however, I was asked to put the carry-on in to the luggage checker they have at the boarding gate. Arrggh, it must have been 5mm to big to go in the hole they had so thoughtfully provided.   Cue them demanding payment of £48 at the boarding gate. I wasn’t the only one to be caught out this way, lots of other disgruntled passengers vented their consternation at the ground staff and it made for a very lengthy boarding process.

The return home from Dalaman was just the same. As there’s no online check-in at Dalaman, this time the process was done at the check-in desk. Very slow-moving check-in queue with irate offenders being shunted off to one side to cough up.

Easyjet’s max cabin bag size, the one younget included with your ticket is a maximum size 45 x 36 x 20cm including any handles or wheels.

Don’t get caught out the way I did!
