About Mauritius

From leaving the airport to arriving at your chosen hotel Mauritius has lots of interesting sights to see such as the sugar cane plantations, tropical gardens and monuments. Due to being a small island, it is possible to travel from one side of the island to the other within a short time frame to ensure that you can experience all of Mauritius has to offer.

There are a good mixture of public beaches and some more secluded ones attached to the hotels. There is no charge for the sunbeds. Waiter service is great and staff are usually happy to help. There are many restaurants, cafes and bars serving a good selection of delicious food and drink all day and night.

If you enjoy water sports activities the warm, clear waters make it perfect for snorkelling, scuba diving, windsurfing, kiteboarding and stand-up paddleboarding. There are also many diving and snorkelling opportunities on offer. The coral reefs are full of marine life where you can see marine fish, turtles, dolphins and reef sharks.

There are plenty of bars and clubs serving delicious cocktails made with the local staple which is Rum. Mauritius has a history of Rum production, and a visit to one of the island’s Rum distilleries, like Rhumerie de Chamarel, is a great experience where you can learn about the Rum-making process whilst enjoying tasting a variety of flavoured Rums.

Mauritian cuisine is a mixture of Indian, Chinese, African, and French influences. Don’t miss the opportunity to taste dishes like Dholl puri (a stuffed flatbread), seafood curry, and samosas. Street food stalls and local restaurants offer a mix of culinary experiences.

If you enjoy delving into local culture then Mauritius is a melting pot full of heritage with a diverse population, which is reflected in its festivals, traditions, and historical sites. Discover the Hindu temples, Chinese pagodas, and colonial-era architecture that tells the island’s history.

Port Louis, the island’s capital is a busy place where if you enjoy shopping you can explore its many markets, including the famous Central Market. You can get all your souvenirs and gifts here at reasonable prices. Rember to haggle a little and you can get some good bargains.

The Casela World of Adventures is a Safari experience and a must for animal lovers. For a little extra money you can take the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the wildlife, including walking with lions. If you’re feeling brave this needs to be booked before arriving as it gets busy. If you are an adrenaline junkie the canyon bridge walk and the zip lining are a fantastic afternoon within the park.
